Aviram Turgeman - Beer Sommelier

The bottle pops with quite a force as he pours out two flutes of noisy, bubbly, golden liquid. The aroma is alive with a zesty fruitiness, as well as hints of edible flowers and spices. The gentle frothy head engulfs the flaxen body and goes on forever. Its mouth feel is effervescent and perfect. Aviram Turgeman is New York City's first Beer Sommelier and is serving Deus, Brut des Flanders, considered to be the champagne of beers. There is untapped joy and beauty to be discovered in beer and skill is certainly required when choosing. Happily, we now have a guide. At Cafe D' Alsace, the latest addition by Simon Oren, Aviram has created a serious beer list of over one hundred beers categorized according to region and genre which is highly focused on French, German and Belgium brews. He has tasted every bottle and expertly chosen strong and complex beers that pair exceptionally well with the hearty Alsatian cuisine they serve.
As a certified wine sommelier, Aviram comes with previous food pairing experience and exceeds all expectations. Cafe D' Alsace also boasts an international wine list of over 250 wines with over 25 by the glass. Aviram got his start as a wide-eyed and curious seventeen year old in Jerusalem. Drawn by the lure of the bottles perhaps, he would wander behind the bar in the restaurants he worked, inquiring and experimenting.
